Folklore project [Sep. 27th, 2005|08:55 pm]
Ghosts 'R Us

I am asking this community on behalf of the Ball State Anthroplogy Club about folklore.

Does anyone have any stories they can share about the Muncie Indiana area. We are condicting research into local myths and stories, which include ghost stories and haunted houses. If anyone can either share their own story or refer me to folklorists that are familiar with the East Central Indiana area please let me know!

Thank you very much for your time,

I lurk, excuse me for that. Thought I’d pipe in and let you guys know about this. I read this blog about a guy who’s supposedly a New York private detective, and he writes about his daily cases more or less as they happen. Not sure if its real or not, but it’s pretty cool. Anyway, the latest case is about all these strange occurrences at a hotel that guests think have to do with ghosts. Check it out if you want: http://privatedick.blogspot.com

Ghosts 'R Us

[I Am So |draineddrained]

Place: My House
County: Bullet County
Subject: Occurences.

Many of these particular occurances havent happened in some time, but were quite intriging at the time. What made us think that we had a ghost, or something in our house is that sometimes, for no reason at all, My door and occasionally other doors would lock without any of us locking them. And many times, the tvs would not turn off, and in some cases had to be unplugged from the wall for them to turn off. And quite often when were at home by ourselves on the computer, it would sound as if someone with boots was walking around in the kitchen, or someone was dropping a chair above us. But there was never anyone there. Although these instances have dies down of recent, it still makes me curious every now and then. Now, I know nothing out of the ordinary has happened in our house, because we built it. But we really dont know if something happened on the 5 acres we own or something to that extent. Even if we looked into it, I dont know wether or not we would find anything anyway. But I think its an interesting series of events anyway.

Hey all [Jan. 25th, 2004|03:06 am]

Hey, I'm Nathan and I live in Danville. I don't have many personal experiences, but my fiance has had a couple. I have been a several sites here in Danville and know the supposive story of the hauntings. I live behind Old Crow's Inn which from what I've been told you can see ghosts of the slaves from the civil war era. There's also the Erskine Mansion, several stories surrounding it, from ghost slaves to a Man who went insane on Christmas Morning killing his family and himself. It has been said that the holiday decore is still up and blood stains everywhere. However, unsure of the ownership to get access inside. You can go straight up to the house and everything but not get in. The other one I know of here is actually in Garrard Co. at the US 27 and US 34 intersection. State Government ordered this house have the lower right window shutters closed and never reopened, due to many auto-accidents. These accidents would revovle around a image of a young girl hanging herself in the window. There's another story to that same room about a woman waiting for her husband to return from war, and she died waiting. When he finally came home he died in the same room. If anyone knows more about the places here or other places I don't know of. I'm all ears.

Now, as for my personal experience, We (fiance, friend, and I) were driving along Devil's Creek Rd. and Dog Slaughter Rd. in between Corbin and Cumberland Falls. These roads are gravel roads and no houses nearby. I saw what I thought were dogs alongside the road, however they disappeared behind me. My fiance had seen a couple guys along side the road. Possibly hunters and thier dogs, but at 3am in the dark?

Now, I'd like to further "investigate" these places here in Danville and the Old Mental Hospital near Downtown Louisville. But don't know the contacts to get permission.

Hey Kristen, My fiance is from Harlan, Jaime Caldwell. Her mother still lives there and we visit often. Jaime knows of a few places there if you don't already know of them.

Ghosts 'R Us

hey i don't live in Kentucky, but pleased to meet you all anyway! I am from Maryland but i have been far and wide, and one thin that always fascinates me is the ghosts stories people tell. whoa if only i knew where to start. well, for one, I've never seen one myself. but in South Africa, when i lived there, in Pretoria, the family i stayed with the whole year always sore there was a man's ghost there. they evidently saw him walking in a shadow in the driveway, and at 1 a.m. frequently he walked on the gravel near my window. but my experience: i was trying to fix a zipper on my big suitcase to come back to the states and to my great dismay, the freaking zipper was broken. i was so mad! i thought i had to spend a massive amount of money on a new suitcase. my little host brother who secretly stole from me probably did it to get valuables i had locked inside. so i sat to try to fix it for half an hour and then told my host mom, and then came back a few hours later to fix it again, and the thing was totally fine! it was bizarre and i know, how can a ghost do that anyway? but my host mom says it had to be and i can't think of another explanation...

ATTENTION : MEETING? [Oct. 21st, 2003|11:40 am]
Ghosts 'R Us

[I Am So |like laying in the grass]
[They Are Chanting |Anabolic Frolic??? Why??]

So we haven't been getting a lot of posts in this community. I understand that most of you are probably as busy or even more so then I at the moment. Post don't have to be very large and include every detail. Just give a short summary of what happened. Remember, not only are you giving details about your experience but you are also giving people (like me) places to visit for myself. Write what you've seen. Write what you thought you've seen. Write what you've heard. Write about what others say they have experience. Write about old folk lore. Hell, write about things you want to see. Write now.

Since I will be back in the Harlan County area starting October 22 - October 27, I am hoping to arrange some meetings with you people. Even if you are in surrounding counties, we can meet in the middle or something. I'm flexible. :) If you are interested in doing so, you can contact me at the following places:

*606-837-2929 (home phone)
*606-539-5650 (dorm room)
*606-664-5364 (cell phone)
*mercurial1101@hotmail.com (e-mail me or add me to msn mess.)

If I'm not at the following phone numbers, just leave your name and number so I can reach you as soon as possible. I would love to meet with any and all of you if I could. Just make the call and we'll go hunting!

[I Am So |Happy]
[They Are Chanting |Orchestral Compositions]

I want to welcome everyone to this community, whether you are a member or just watching. Although this community is starting out somewhat slow, I look for it to do very well in the weeks to come.
As you know, this community was made for those who have heard of or experienced some sort of paranormal activity (whether it be apparations or bumps in the night). It is vital that you list the name of the place you visited and the county it was in; this way, if someone wants to go visit it, they know where to go. You can also list places that you have been that were said to be haunted and weren't.
In the next few weeks I plan to get together with a group of people and go to some sites that are said to be haunted and such. I urge you to do the same. Before you go, though, make sure that you have a pretty good idea of who the person is. Also, meet in a public place. I understand that most of you are over the age of eighteen, but being legal doesn't meet that you can disregard safety.
I hope to hear more of your stories very soon.

If you have any questions concerning the community or meetings, please contact me through my e-mail.
